The Enlightenment Pill is an original movie written by Abraham Heisler,
filmmaker and yogi. In a comedic style the film deals with the balance between
finding one's path to enlightenment while living in a consumer society.
When Harry, an young urbanite, participates in a pharmaceutical experiment that
brings him instant enlightenment, he produces an incredible work of art.
Lucrative offers to have him create more of the same are thrown his way. But
when Harry goes to get more of "The Pill" he finds the experiment discontinued.
He's got one week to become enlightened again or he'll lose the opportunity of a
lifetime.
Why is a film like this important?
"With the advancement in technology and science, human beings have developed multi-faceted
ways of achieving satisfaction quickly. But is this culture of instant
gratification long lasting? We find ourselves in an interesting time when many
paths to happiness and enlightenment are at our fingertips. People all over the
world are feeling less satisfied with dogmatic traditions and blind consumerism.
Now is a time, when holistic approaches to living are gaining wide acceptance.
We are vastly realizing our interconnectedness and the importance of having a
path to enlightenment which confirms this."
-Abraham Heisler, Writer/Director
Film synopsis
Harry is a young, disconnected New Yorker with the desire to escape his
monotonous routine. Salvation comes in the form of a medical study pill that for
one day produces a state of "enlightenment."
In that state, Harry creates art that has a cutthroat advertising agency chasing
him down for more of his work. With a huge financial incentive, they give him
one week's time to recreate more "meaningful art". Now, denied access to the
pill, Harry has one week to find "enlightenment" on his own. Pressured
from his advertising friend, Jack, Harry goes from yoga class, to mediation
retreat, to monastery seeking enlightenment with a deadline. Little does he know
that his oddball neighbor, Joe, happens to be an enlightened spiritual master.
Joe teaches Harry enlightenment was always in reach. Like a modern day Dorothy
in the Wizard of Oz, he just needed to learn what truly mattered. Taken through
a metaphysical journey Harry is left to realize the interconnectivity of all
things.
